Dragons

Dragons have been in popular culture for centuries. They inspire the imagination and have been the source of mythology from all over the world.

In Europe and China, the myth of dragons seem to have developed independently of one another and have different meanings. In Europe, the dragon tends to be a major foe for heroic knights to slay and save the kingdom. They are seen as greedily coveting gold and treasures and the ultimate test of a heroes mettle.

In China, the dragon is celebrated as a snake-like beast whose potent power can control water. They are seen as sources of strength and good fortune.

Whatever their origin, dragons have been the cornerstone of modern fantasy and sci-fi from Harry Potter to Lord of the Rings to Game of Thrones. Their characteristics vary wildly from source to source, but the giant fire-breathing lizard is the staple.
